A Conversation With My Mentor: On Coming Back to Yourself
I recently sat down for an Instagram Live with my longtime mentor, Adrian, someone I've worked with for years and who has shaped a lot of how I think about this work. We talked about burnout, about the body, and about what it actually looks like to build a practice that doesn't run on someone else's formula.
Before I did this work, I spent almost 16 years in corporate consulting. I didn't clock it at the time, but I was in fight or flight nearly all the time. Disassociated from my body. From myself. It took stepping fully away to feel the difference, and to know I'd made the right call.
That's really the throughline of everything I do now. Reiki, Emotion Code, and Somatic Experiencing are three different modalities, but they're all doing the same job: helping someone come back to what's already inside them. Reiki brings the system into a calmer, more grounded place. Emotion Code finds what's been stuck and lets it move. Somatic Experiencing lets the body say what it's been trying to say the whole time. None of it is about fixing something broken. It's about giving stuck information room to complete.
Adrian and I talked about what happens when an emotion doesn't get to finish. It doesn't disappear, it just adds up. Shows up as tension, as distraction, sometimes as something physical. But when you let it move all the way through instead of trying to fix or explain it, what's underneath isn't chaos. It's direction. More than once, something has surfaced that made no sense to me in the moment, and weeks later an opportunity or an answer showed up that I couldn't have planned for or forced. The information was there the whole time. It just needed room to move.
Every client's session looks different, because every person is different. That's why I don't come in with a fixed protocol. I'm not a healer. I no longer use that title. I'm a guide, here to support someone through their own process, not to hold it for them. The goal was never to keep you coming back to me. It's to bring you back to yourself.
